COLUMBAN SISTERS – Praying towards the 30th Sunday

GOSPEL according to Saint Matthew 22:34-40
When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees they got together and, to disconcert him, one of them put a question, ‘Master, which is the greatest commandment of the Law?’ Jesus said, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the greatest and the first commandment.  The second resembles it: you must love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang the whole Law, and the Prophets also.’

FIRST READING:  A reading from the book of Exodus 22:20-26
SECOND READING: A reading from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians.1:5-10

Sunday, October 18, Catholic churches all around the world celebrate World Mission Day, (WMD). This year, the Holy Father based his message for WMD on a theme taken from the book of Isaiah: ‘Here I am, send me”. In our present reality of the Covid-19 pandemic, he says, people experience fear, disorientation and fragility, but he also sees it as an opportunity for mission, for sharing, for service, and intercessory prayer.  Our personal vocation comes from the fact that we are sons and daughters of God in the family of the Church, called to continue the mission of Jesus in our time and place, through our witness of faith and the proclamation of the Gospel, so that through us God may continue to manifest his love for others. Our personal relationship of love with Jesus allows us to listen to the call of mission in our daily lives, in our own particular circumstances. We are challenged by the poverty of those who die alone, the abandoned, those who have lost their jobs and income, the homeless and those who lack food. In prayer we listen to God’s question: “Whom shall I send?” Hopefully, we can all generously respond: Here I am, send me!”. (Is 6:8).  For the full article please click on the following: Mission Sunday Reflection 18 October 2020

WORLD DAY FOR MIGRANTS AND REFUGEES
The theme chosen by the Holy Father for the 106th World Day of Migrants and Refugees, “Like Jesus Christ, forced to flee,” is dedicated to the 50.8 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the world; those who have been forced from their homes due to conflict, violence, climate change and disasters and their need for pastoral care. We are all familiar from the newspapers and TV with images and information about the  migrant situation in Greece, Syria, Lebanon and parts of Africa. We have seen the situation on the island of Lesbos and the fact that 534 people have died so far this year trying to cross the Mediterranean. Our Sisters are involved with helping migrants in…
